Sporty but discreet: The new JE DESIGN Seat Leon FR Street Race

  • Premier SEAT tuner presents their programme for face-lifted compacts
  • Twin Five Spoke 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Increased power for petrol and diesel motors
  • Conversion also available for SC, Kombi and Leon Cupra 300

Technically and visually refreshed, the face-lifted Seat Leon range (2017 MY), which starts at 14,990 euro, has grown even friskier. The FR (Formula Racing) equipment line described by Seat as “strong, sporty and dynamic”, provides the perfect basis for even hotter versions from tuner JE DESIGN. This summer, JE DESIGN showcases the Seat Leon 5F FR  (2017MY) in ‘Street Race’ tuning programme for the sporty Spaniard that covers aerodynamics, suspension, alloy wheel and upgrades for selected petrol and diesel engines.

In contrast with the recently introduced JE DESIGN Seat Leon Cupra 300 ST 4Drive Widebody the modifications at the Leon FR are more discreet. Jochen Eckelt’s team created the ‘Street Race’ as a fine balance between sportiness and everyday comfort.

The aerodynamic package includes the three-piece ‘Street Race’ front bumper (833 euro) with an optional air duct system, and side skirts (322 euro) for a wider waistline. JE DESIGN has also offer a rear insert for the original exhaust outlets of the face-lifted model. This can be ordered in either carbon look or glossy black finish (298 euro).

Chassis performance options to lower the ride height and improve handling start with a set of lowering springs for the original dampers (191 euro). The more enthusiastic driver has the option of JE DESIGN’s KW fully adjustable coilover suspension systems in Variants 1, 2 and 3, with prices starting at 1,079 euro.

With individualisation as their theme, JE DESIGN offers a wide choice of alloy wheels, but the star of this show is the new 20-in glossy black design with polished lip. A complete wheel set of these Twin Five Spoke wheels in 8.5J x 20 inch, shod with Continental Sport Contact 6 in 235/30ZR20 (88Y), costs 2,190 euro.

The JE DESIGN conversion also encompasses output upgrades for the diesel and petrol engines. An additional engine control unit raises the output of the 2.0 TDI turbo-diesel engine from 184hp/135 kW to 220hp/162 kW, accompanied by a torque increase from 380 to 430 Nm. This reduces the 0-100km/h sprint from 7.5 sec to 7.2 sec, while maximum speed goes up from 226km/h to 232km/h. This ECU offered for 1,890 euro.

The 1.8 litre TFSI motor benefits from JE DESIGN’s add-on ECU, which boosts output from 180hp/132 kW to 230hp/170 kW, with peak torque up from 250Nm to 330Nm for 1,899 euro. This conversion drops the 0-100kh/h time from 7.2 sec to 6.9 sec, while top speed goes up from 224km/h to 231km/h.

The JE DESIGN engine upgrades come with a two-year engine, gearbox and drivetrain warranty.

All prices include VAT, but not fitting and painting. Complete conversions are possible at JE DESIGN’s facilities, and include TUV certification. All components have individual TUV approval, and can be entered in the vehicle documents.

Aerodynamic, suspension and alloy wheel conversions are also available for the three-door SC and Kombi ST, as well as all Leon Cupra 300 models.
