Federal Tires King of Europe: Joe Hountondji takes the championship

  • Double success for Red Bull Driftbrothers
  • Swiss Nicolas Maunoir becomes third overall
  • Daigo Saito wins "King of Nations" championship

After an incredible finale in Serres, Greece the 2017 Federal Tyres King of Europe and King of Nations series have come to an end as Red Bull Driftbrothers driver Joe Hountondji takes the King of Europe Championship with Daigo Saito taking the King of Nations Championship.

With the most recent drift event on the circuit being King of Europe in 2011, Serres Racing Circuit found it the perfect opportunity to re-open their doors to drifting with international drivers competing from across the world.

During qualification, first place would go to Cypriot driver George Xristoforou, not only claiming the top spot but also highest attack speed at an impressive 165 km/h, with an average speed of 110 throughout the high-speed circuit. Second place went to Greek driver Christos Chantzaras and third place went to Elias Hountondji, who was fighting against team-mate and brother Joe for the series title. Ex-King of Europe judge Stathis Papargiropoulos marked an impressive return as he landed the 4th place in a brand new AE86 build.

Ivan Ivanov landed the top qualification spot in the Pro2 series with Antonis Asmanidis in second and Milos Djordjevic in third.

After an afternoon of epic battles in front of huge fans roaring on the home drivers, Christos Chantazaras gave the home crowd the perfect reason to cheer as he blew away the competition to take the top spot on the podium. Calin Ciortan landed a well-deserved second spot on the podium after an incredible final and Elias Hountondji almost managed to steal the Championship from brother Joe as he landed third.

In the overall 2017 King of Europe series rankings, Joe Hountodji takes the top spot with brother Elias in second and Swiss driver Nicolas Maunoir’s fine form in the second half of the season pays off as he takes the third spot.

Japanese driver Daigo Saito clinches the top spot in the King of Nations series with Australian Luke Fink in second and Kuwaiti Nasser Almutairi in third.

With just two exhibition rounds remaining in the 2017 season, we now head to Brazil and Australia before beginning what will undoubtedly be an incredible 2018!
